KOBE -- A "fair trade" offer by a Japanese woman to buy pure coconut oil from a small Indonesian island has changed the lives of the people there, who previously earned a living blast fishing reefs. Pure coconut oil from the island is available online at http://www.lovesgallery.wixsite.com/coconutoil. The steady income from the coconut oil allowed them to buy new fishing equipment, and to start raising lobsters. This led to Indonesian government officials, including a cabinet minister, visiting the small island to observe the changes. The islanders also started teaching people on neighbouring islands how extract and purify coconut oil.
